memes and things

I had a "free" morning, a comfortable bed, and a case series to write, so Flatmate promised last night that she would wake me up before she left the house at 9.30am. She knocked on my door at 9am and said that if I got up then, she would make me breakfast. So much love for her right now. And then my consultant sent me home from clinic early, because, "It's quiet and it's Friday, so you should get lost and have fun!" So, I swam through the puddles and contemplated the relative merits of different types of cake in Sainsburys and am now waiting for my hair to stop dripping down the back of my neck.

I have a thread on the anonymous love meme, if you should feel moved to go and leave me love.

And I have questions from persiflage_1:

- Comment with "Paper. Scissors. Rock. Spock. Merlin."
- I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
- Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
- Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.

1) Do you have a favourite Martha/Jack moment?
The End of the World Survivors Club scene from her first episode in Torchwood, closely followed by the "you too, huh?" comment in The Sound of Drums

2) Which you do like more: Lewis or Silent Witness?
Oh, Lewis. I love Lewis, and have done since he was in Morse. I adore Hathaway. I like Dr Hobson and Superintendent Innocent. I generally like all the relationship dynamics between all the characters. I think that the plots are usually smart and interesting. I roll my eyes and wave my hands around when Hathaway gets to keep working on cases involving people he used to date, which is always, but that is generally their biggest offence. I think that it's well-written and gorgeous. I don't write fic for Lewis because I get everything I could ever want out of what actually makes it onto the television. I watch Silent Witness for a very small handful of adorable moments, for mocking purposes, and to criticise the medicine. And I keep trying to write fic for it because I have this need to fix the stupid shit they do.

3) If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I'd really like to visit the Arctic Circle. On the other end of the climate spectrum, I want to go to Jamaica.

4) Who's your biggest celebrity crush?
Freema Agyeman, of course. :)

5) Whare are you most looking forward to this year?
My month in Tanzania. And in a completely terrified way, I'm looking forward to getting through the insane job applications proess and finally finding out where I'm going to be working after (argh) graduation.

Last weekend, when I sat Mama Sefkhet down and said, look, you have seen The End of Time but not Utopia etc, this is ridiculous and also how did your brain not explode from all the confusion, here, we are watching them now. Even she looked at Freema and went, "Sefkhet, you have excellent taste in women."

It is difficult to know what to do with so much happiness.
With sadness there is something to rub against,
a wound to tend with lotion and cloth.
When the world falls in around you, you have pieces to pick up, something to hold in your hands, like ticket stubs or change.

But happiness floats.
It doesn't need you to hold it down.
It doesn't need anything.
Happiness lands on the roof of the next house, singing, and disappears when it wants to.
You are happy either way.
Even the fact that you once lived in a peaceful tree house and now live over a quarry of noise and dust cannot make you unhappy.
Everything has a life of its own.,
it too could wake up filled with possibilities of coffee cake and ripe peaches,
and love even the floor which needs to be swept,
the soiled linens and scratched records.

Since there is no place large enough to contain so much happiness,
you shrug, you raise your hands, and it flows out of you into everything you touch. You are not responsible.

You take no credit, as the night sky takes no credit for the moon, but continues to hold it, and share it, and in that way, be known.
